With reference to your despatch No.83 of 2nd April, 1927, on the subject of the contribution by the Hong Kong Goverment towards the cost of the Singapore Naval Base, I have the honour to forward copy of a letter from the Auditor on the question of the disposal of the sum of £14,517.0s.6d, being interest accrued on the special fund
established for providing the Colony's contribution of
£250,000.0s.Od.

The contribution was fixed at £250,000, and the Lords Commissioners of the Admirality requested that the whole sum should not be paid over at once but as required and as expenses were incurred. There can be, I regret, no question
of increasing that contribution under the conditions now
obtaining in Hong Kong.
3. Interest on the money received from the Shipping Control has always been credited to the Hong Kong General Account, and I entirely concur in the directions given in Colonial Office letter No.30041/27 of 29th March, 1927, that the accrued interest on the capital sum should be transferred
to that same account.
4. I do not anticipate any further controversy over the Shipping Control money.
